When I started this blog, my thought was that I would share my efforts to regain control of my uber-messy house. Surprisingly (or not), I haven’t done much of that. I might even, just maybe, be guilty of using my blog as an excuse not to do housework. Gotta get the format right, need to upload pictures, write posts, go to a conference, yada, yada, yada…

But now, I am sharing a cleaning victory from last week! Above is a picture of my stovetop. It often gets neglected and mystery food stuffs spill over then get cooked-on and it looked plain icky.

I was really worried that it would be a difficult, drawn-out process to get it clean. It turned out much easier than expected, thanks to my good friend, baking soda! I love this stuff! I use it frequently to clean and it really does a good job. A thorough sprinkling of the white stuff, a splash of soapy water, and then the waiting game. I wanted it to get a good soaking before I made my attack.

However, my attack wasn’t nearly as forceful as I thought it would be. I just wiped the gook away. Yes, there were some spots that needed a bit more elbow grease, but overall, it came up rather easily. Gross and icky became clean and shiny again! Hooray!

DSCF0547I was so proud of myself, I couldn’t wait to show my family. Of course, by the time they were all home, the stove was covered again with pots and pans as I was making dinner and no one could see my accomplishment. Some might not think this is a big deal, but for me, I knew I had made a small step to recovering my home. A small victory in the war against Ick. I still have a long way to go, but I’m working on it!
